Where
is Brushwood?
We
are located in Zone 6b west of Philadelphia. However, there is no garden
center here for local visits. All orders are shipped.
Will
you send me a catalog?
In
order to provide you with the most up-to-date stock and inventory
information, we have chosen not to print a catalog. This assures that
when you order, you will know before you buy that your plants are
available. It also helps our environment!
Every
plant we grow is available right here on-line. If you are concerned
about purchasing on-line, you may use the Cart built into the site to order and choose to mail a check or fax your payment information. We do not staff a call center at this time.
Why
don't you offer more plants?
We
propagate and grow all of our own plants for you. This assures quality
and that your plants will be true to name. While some other nurseries
buy and resell plants from an office and never see your order, we prefer
to nurture them and send them to you ourselves. Unfortunately this limits our
selection until we build numbers of some varieties. We are always
finding, growing and adding new items to our offering.
How
do I buy from Brushwood?
Click on
the Add to cartand Buy Now links for each plant you want. They will lead you to the shopping cart each time you add a plant.
You may select quantities, edit items and continue shopping as much as
you wish. When you're ready to order just click on the Check
Out button and fill out your payment and shipping information. We
are pleased to offer Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express
payment options directly through the secure link! You may also pay by
check or Paypal.
After you process your
order, you will receive an E-mail from us for confirmation.
How
will you ship my order?
We
ship most orders via UPS Ground or United States Postal Service Priority Mail. We will choose depending on your location. This has
proven to be fast and gentle enough to bring your plants to your door in
excellent condition. At this time, we only ship to the continental United States.
All orders are charged a flat fee of $10 for packaging and shipping.
What
will my plants look like?
Depending
on the time of year, your plants may fill the entire stake
or may be cut back a bit. We must give them a full winter dormancy for their health
and to assure flowering of some varieties. We must also trim back heavy
growth in the spring and summer for good air circulation in the canopy.
So, your plants may look odd coming out of the box but rest assured,
they'll grow big and strong! See also About Our Plants at left.
What
size are the plants?
Clematis
and Other Vines are grown in Quart Pots. Some varieties establish slower
so we grow them longer before sending them to you. See also About Our Plants at left.
Will
this plant grow in my garden?
Every
garden is unique. What can't grow down the road may thrive for you! Use the Hardiness Zones guide as a start and watch the
"Zones X to Y" note on each variety's page. These are only
guidelines, however. You may find your garden can grow more or less than
you expected.
How
do I prune Clematis?
First
off: Don't Worry! Clematis pruning is not that complicated. In fact,
its not even necessary! Some varieties benefit from regular pruning and
will flower better after pruning. Others simply outgrow a small space if
not kept in check. Have a look at our How to Grow Clematis page for easy help. For much more information on
growing Clematis, we suggest you see the American
Clematis Society's web site. They offer a wealth of information on
growing Clematis in the United States; especially in hot climates.
