Clematis viticella
Small Flowered Species Full Sun, Partial Shade Zones 4-11 Grows 10 to 16 feet
Italy, 1569. Clematis viticella is the parent species of dozens of well known hybrids like Madame Julia Correvon, Betty Corning, Venosa Violacea, Etoile Violette and Purpurea Plena Elegans. The vine grows tall and has lovely, pendulous 2 inch flowers from mid summer into fall. Since the flowers hang down, it is best displayed across an arching support. A garden gateway arch is the perfect place for it! Viticella is vigorous and easy to grow. Pruning: 3
